Village in Briceni district to host bell-ringing contest

The second contest for Orthodox bell ringers “The Chime of Halagora” will be held during Septmeber 4-5 in the village of Upper Halagora, Briceni district, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The aim of this competition is to promote the tradition of bell-ringing, the popularization of this art, as well as to improve the skills of the bell ringers serving in Orthodox churches”, says Denis Latishev, chairman of the Moldovan Association of Bell Ringers. Latishev says this contest will facilitate experience exchange between the participants. He invited all the bell ringers to joint the contest and show their skills by ringing 7 bells manufactured by a famous bell foundry in Minsk. “Each participant will be required to present to the jury two Orthodox bell themes with a duration of 2 to 3 minutes”, specified Latishev. Upper Halagora was selected to host the competition in particular because this is the native village of Nicolae Cretu, the contest's founder and sponsor. The first contest for Orthodox bell ringers was held back in 2003 and was themed “The Moldovan Village”. Its youngest participant was 12.
