Vlad Filat: Previous government’s wrong policies transformed Moldova into country of origin for human trafficking
The incorrect approaches and policies pursued by the previous government made Moldova be considered a country of origin for trafficking in persons, Prime Minsiter Vlad Filat said Monday at the meeting of the national committee for combating human trafficking. 452 offences have been classed as trafficking in human beings this year, Info-Prim Neo reports.
172 cases of the total are cases of human trafficking, 130 - cases of procuring, 96 - cases of organization of illegal migration, 36 – cases of trafficking in children, while 18 – cases of illegal taking out of the country, said Minister of the Interior Victor Catan. He stressed that the number of such offences has decreased compared with the previous years
“Unfortunately, we have figures, but not many persons punished for such offences,” the Premier said.
Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco said that 266 trafficking-related legal cases have been sent to court this year. Eighty-eight of them concern trafficking in human beings, 19 – trafficking in children, 10 – illegal taking out of the country, 97 – procuring, while 52 – organization of illegal migration.
