Vladimir Cebotari: Judges should specialize in particular types of disputes

Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari is for the specialization of judges in particular types of disputes. He developed the issue in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

“It’s abnormal when a judge starts the workday with a criminal case and in an hour examines a civil lawsuit and later an administrative case or a family case. Sometimes the judges cannot cope with particular types of cases and the trials last for years,” said the minister.

According to Vladimir Cebotari, in parallel with the optimization of the courts of law, they will initiate the specialization of judges in particular types of cases. “We need judges-specialists in particular areas, who will be able to take correct decisions by two-three hearings. The number of lawsuits and the costs incurred by the state will thus decrease significantly,” he stated.

The minister noted that he is for keeping the district courts of law in the municipality of Chisinau, but these should specialize in particular types of cases. “For example, the Ciocana Court could examine only criminal cases, while the Rascani Court – the administrative cases,” he said.

Vladimir Cebotari also said that the contravention unit that is now equal to 20 lei will be soon raised and will most probably represent 50 lei. “The heavier fines will stop the people from violating the law,” stated the minister.
