Volunteer Week starts Oct. 1

The public authorities, civil society organizations, initiative groups and others during October 1-7 will stage information campaigns centering on volunteerism and charity, cleanup, greening and training events within the National Volunteer Week 2018.

Contacted by IPN, Andrei Gaiu, director of the public association “Youth for the Right to Life” that will organize events, said over 900 activities were held during a week last year. This year the figure is expected to exceed 1,000. There will be 37 district and municipal coordinators this year and the association’s network will be thus extended and more persons will be motivated to become involved.

As the National Volunteer Week 2018 takes place in the same period as the Teacher’s Day, students will go to help retired teachers at home after classes.

Those who want to become involved in the activities of the National Volunteer Week can do it by filling out an application form. This will be sent to the email address tdv.secretariat@gmail.com.

Andrei Gaiu said progress has been made in volunteering in Moldova during the last few years. The young people become involved the most. “In the developed countries, the volunteering activities involve mainly persons older than 30. In Moldova, we just started to tend to constant volunteering. It is sporadic in our country,” he stated.

Last year the National Volunteer Week involved 23,000 volunteers and their volunteering work during a week was estimated at 1 million lei.
