Vrancea rocked by quake measuring 3.7 degrees

An earthquake measuring 3.7 degrees on the Richter scale happened in Romania’s Vrancea region last night, at 00.01 local hour.

Ion Ilies, head of the Experimental Seismology Institute of the Chisinau Institute of Geology and Seismology, has told IPN that the quake occurred at a depth of 130 km. The intensity of oscillations was very weak so that in Chisinau the quake was felt only by apparatus.

According to scientists, quakes measuring less than 4 degrees on the Richter scale happened rather often. They ease tension accumulated inside earth, preventing thus the appearance of powerful earthquakes.
