The humid weather with temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius forecast for the next seven days may put autumn crops at risk, as it creates conditions for the crops to sprout prematurely and subsequently perish if temperatures plummet.

Lows are expected to stand at around -1 in the north and at +3 in the south, and highs will range from +1... +5 in the north to +3...+7 in the south.

Experts say the seeds and plants that developed normally during the autumn months are able to resist low soil temperatures at the critical depth of 3 centimeters of down to -18 degrees Celsius.

However, Nicanor Buzovoi, the president of the Association of Grain Producers, recently said the grains sown this autumn haven't developed enough during the tillering stage, which leaves them vulnerable to low temperatures, so a thick enough snow coat is critical for their survival.
