Watchdog: Diesel fuel promised by Igor Dodon to farmers decreased ten times in volume

Igor Dodon in August announced that Moldova will get a present of 50,000 tonnes of diesel fuel from Russia. Experts of Watchdog.MD association said the announcement was well placed, right after farmers’ protests and before the start of the election campaign. However, according to Igor Dodon’s last statements, the farmers will get financial assistance that could be used to buy only about 4,700 tonnes of diesel fuel, which is ten times less than promised initially, IPN reports.

In an analysis, Watchdog.MD says the Socialist press presented this news item about the donated diesel fuel rather pompously. On September 23, Igor Dodon said yet that Moldova asked money from Russia, not diesel fuel. “For us, it is better if this support from Russia comes in the form of money as it will be easier to transmit it to farmers. It will last to bring the diesel fuel, to store it, to pass it on,” President Dodon stated in a TV program.

Five days later, in an online discussion with Igor Dodon, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced that they will offer Moldova 500 million rubles in humanitarian assistance so as to enable the agricultural enterprises to buy fuel. The first tranche will represent half of the sum. “So, the real assistance now will be of 250 million rubles. For the second trance, a date hasn’t been announced, but Igor Dodon said he has yet another good news – discounts provided by Lukoil,” says the analysis by Watchdog.MD.

According to the association’s experts, ten times less than Igor Dodon promised initially will come as assistance. This is insufficient for the farmers, but is enough to fuel the propagandistic machinery of the PSRM before the elections.
