WB provided US$880m to Moldova in 20 years

During 20 years, the World Bank offered US$880 in financial assistance to Moldova. The issue was discussed in a meeting of Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Philippe Le Houerou, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vlad Filat said that the World Bank is one of the most important development partners of Moldova and the bilateral cooperation focuses on such important areas as education of a high quality, social assistance, investments in agriculture, energy, road building, public finance management, and the reform of the public administration. The World Bank’s current portfolio for Moldova includes 11 active projects with a total commitment of US$281 million. The Premier said that the projects implemented with the WB’s support are carried out successfully. The priorities for the next period include energy efficiency, investments in the rural infrastructure and the reform of the local and central public administration. Philippe Le Houerou approved of the work done by the Government of Moldova, underlining the economic growth obtained during the last two years. He stressed that the reforms are a continuous process that cannot be stopped at half way. He also said that the World Bank will support Moldova on this path. In the meeting, there was presented the new WB Director for Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus Qimiao Fan, who will replace Martin Raiser in this post.
