The Central Market sellers are seldom offered a cup of tea or clothes to warm themselves up even if this is the duty of the employers. The sellers said they work in winter too because they do not have a choice, Info-Prim Neo reports.
One of the sellers said that he has worked at the market for many years and the situation every winter is the same. Another vendor said the only solution not to freeze is to keep moving.
According to the chief inspector of the Chisinau Labor Inspectorate Marin Marcu, the persons who work in the open air must be provided with special clothes and with at least 1 liter of hot tea during the workday by the employer. The employers must set up places where the employees can warn themselves up and allow them to have breaks. In the middle of January, the Inspectorate will start to carry out raids at markets so as to see how the employers fulfill their obligations.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said that in 2013-2014 the Government intends to build a number of halls for the Central Market sellers. The halls will be designed for those who come to sell the products they grew themselves. “We permanently monitor the activity of these persons. Regretfully, things do not change much as there are not enough heated and well-arranged workplaces and the persons have to perform different hard works,” she stated.
