Witness to April 2009 violent protests: Somebody shouted to stop beating us as one was already dead

The young man who was killed during the April 2009 protests, Valeriu Boboc, was hit in the belly by a person dressed in black clothes, witness Tatiana Roman said in a hearing on January 10, Info-Prim Neo reports. Tatiana, 26, related that on April 7, 2009 she and her colleague Marcela Donos went to the Great National Assembly Square, where Marcela introduced her to Valeriu Boboc, a friend of hers. It happened at about 21.30. A fire was burning near the Triumphal Arch. “I talked with Marcela and Valeriu for a while. Then we went to the fire to warm up. An armed person approached us and told us to lie down. We then heard a shot,” said Tatiana Roman. She also said that several police officers started to beat them. “They hit me on the back and belly. Valeriu and Marcela tried to run away, but did not manage to. They were also beaten. More policemen came. Somebody shouted to stop beating us as one was already dead,” Tatiana said. According to the young woman, several police officers took her into a car on Pushkin St. “There was Marcela and another girl inside the car. They took us to the Buiucani police commissariat. In the room, they put us questions and then took us to a basement, where they also brought a naked boy who was all in blood,” Tatiana said. She stated she was allowed to go after she provided her personal data. In the same hearing, suspended police officer Ion Perju, who is accused of murdering Valeriu Boboc, maintained that he was not guilty and will prove his innocence by videos and photos. The hearing will continue on Monday, January 17.
