Wizz Air is reopening its operation base at the Chisinau International Airport, with flights to resume from December 16, representatives for the Hungarian low-cost airline told a press conference Thursday.
The airline also plans to add new flights to its Chisinau portfolio, connecting the Moldovan capital to a total of 16 destinations.
Chisinau Airport interim director Sergiu Spoială said the reopening of the Wizz Air operational base proves that Moldova is becoming more attractive in the air transport industry.
Wizz Air started operations in Moldova in 2013, opening its Chisinau base in March 2017.
“We are delighted to resume our core operations and add more direct flights connecting Chisinau now with 16 destinations, underscoring our growth vision. This development will provide almost 91,000 additional seats, ensuring a 374% increase in capacity during the winter season for passengers traveling to and from Chisinau”, said Andras Rado, Wizz Air head of corporate communications.
In March 2023, Wizz Air suspended all flights to and from Chisinau, citing “high, albeit not imminent, risk in the country's airspace”.
