Woman accuses prosecutors and judges of defending killer of her son

A woman from Soldanesti accuses prosecutors and judges of protecting the murderer of her son, who died last summer. In a news conference at IPN, Eugenia Ceban said the judges of the Appeals Court intend to close the case, at the insistence of MPs.

Last summer, the woman was informed that her son drowned in the Nistru River while under the influence of alcohol. After she buried her son, she found out that the Soldanesti Prosecutor’s Office started a criminal case, but the investigation into this case had been stagnant for two months. The woman asked transferring the case to another prosecutor.

After the transfer of the case, the second legal-medical examination revealed that the man died as a result of a neck wound. Form different sources, the woman found out that her son spent that day on the bank of the river together with young people from Soldanesti, among whom was the alleged killer. It is a young man who was earlier tried for use of violence and murder. It is supposed that the son of a Democratic lawmaker was an eyewitness.

Eugenia Ceban said she found out that the prosecutor from Soldanesti, who delayed the investigation of the case, was a relative of the young man whom she accuses of murder. The Centru court issued an arrest warrant against the suspect, but the decision was annulled by judges of the Chisinau Appeals Court, who ordered placing the man under house arrest.

The woman presumes that her son was murdered because of a conflict of interests. The young man worked for a period in Italy. He then came to Moldova to invest in agriculture. When he went to the Ministry of Agriculture to present the project, somebody told him not to start a business in Soldanesti and Rezina because these areas are ‘supervises’ by a Liberal-Democratic MP. Eugenia Ceban said she possesses information that the murderer of her son will be set free and another young man will be convicted in his place.

The member of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” Daniela Bodrug told the same news conference that the justice system in Moldova is an agency that safeguards the political interests, while the prosecutors and judges work for the criminals’ benefit and to the people’s detriment.
