Woman dies electrocuted by rain-damaged wire
A 55-year-old woman died of an electric shock in Balanesti, Criuleni district, after Monday’s storm, June 28.
According to Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Service for Civil Protection and Exceptional Situations, it is believed the woman was electrocuted when she was stringing out a carpet on an steel cord, which came in contact with an electric wire rived by the storm.
The heavy rain and wind downed a tree near Penitentiary nr.2 in Lipcani, blocking the Lipcani-Cernauti road. However, the local authorities and rescuers managed to clear the road shortly. Elsewhere, 3 houses, 2 cellars and 2 wells were flooded in Lipcani. In Varnita, Anenii Noi, the rain destroyed 5,500 meters of asphalt roads.
According to the Weather Service, rains will last until July 2 inclusive.
