Of the 19 candidates named as ambassadors in 2015, only two were women. As a restful, the women who managed embassies and consulates represented 7.7% of the total, a gender loss of 5.1% compared with the previous term, show the ten accessible statistical profiles of women and girls in Moldova that were launched by UN Woman Moldova and the National Bureau of Statistics, IPN reports.

The year 2015 can be considered a controversial one from gender perspective for the Moldovan diplomatic service. At the beginning of the year, the embassies and consular officers were headed by five women. Four of these were ambassadors, while one was a consul. After the second Government was dismissed, this figure halved.

The study shows that the Customs Service is a rather typical area for the professional development of women. In 2014, the women represented 28.2% of all the functionaries of this service. At the same time, at the State Tax Service, the women employees represented 65.5%.

Women occupy only 1 out of 5 public dignity functions (including 43% in the judicial sector, and 29% in the prosecution sector), a quarter of officials of the customs service or defense and national security (the military). 3 out of 10 respondents consider that women cannot practice certain professions (due to so-called biological differences) and 2 consider that women are unable to hold management positions.

In science and development, the women faced underrepresentation problems. In 2014, the women represented 48% of the scientific researchers. Only 19% of these had the degree of Doctor Habilitate, 47% of Doctor of Sciences, while 56% didn’t have a scientific degree.

According to a study made in 2014, over 20% of the respondents considered that the women are less able to deal with executive posts and must not enter politics.
