Workers of Glodeni sugar factory take to the street again
Workers of the sugar factory Glodeni-Zahar SA Thursday protested in front of the Government. They demanded that they be paid salaries. Otherwise, they will stage protests on a regular basis, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The factory has been in the process of insolvency since November 2009. “They haven’t paid us salaries for two years and we don’t know if we will get them. An adviser to the Premier went out and told us to write again all our demands. This is bureaucracy,” said the deputy head of the workers’ trade union “Glodeni-Zahar” SA Valentina Semeniuc. She said that 10-15 persons come to protests because the others do not have money for the trip.
Worker Elena Pogor complained that the law is being broken. “Though the senior authorities know our problems, nobody comes to support and protect us. We are left in the shadow,” said the woman.
Another protester Anatolie Furtuna said he has no more money. “It is not for the first time that we come here. The salary earners want to talk to Prime Minister Vlad Filat,” said the man. Anatolie Furtuna found another job, in the construction sector, but still hopes he will receive his salary for the work done at the sugar factory.
“I’m nearly 60 and I worked at the factory for 32 years. They made me redundant and did not pay me salary. That’s why we went out to protest,” said worker Maria Mutiuc.
The workers have staged protests since 2009, when the new administration of the company refused to extend the work contracts with the 150 employees. The sugar factory’s debts to the employees amount to about 5 million lei.
