WWII veterans to receive financial assistance on May 9

On Victory Day on May 9, WWII veterans in Moldova, both who fought in the Red Army and the Romanian Army, will receive lump sums of 700 lei, while war widows will receive 500 lei, under a Cabinet decision adopted Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Social Protection Minister Valentina Buliga said the payments will be offered to 5,831 veterans and 4,919 widows. The over 6 million lei needed will be allocated from the Social Assistance Fund. Also, the Government will allocate from its reserve fund the equivalent of 1.13 million Russian rubles to import medals dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the WWII Victory from Russia. According to Moldovan State Minister Victor Bodiu, these medals will be awarded to 6,632 veterans of the Soviet Army. In addition, the “WWII Commemoration Cross” medal will be offered to veterans from both Soviet and Romanian armies, as decided earlier by Parliament. Also on Wednesday the Cabinet approved the program of celebrations dedicated to the Victory day on May 9. It includes a commemoration rally, flower-laying ceremonies at cemeteries and memorials, and concerts.
