The YMCA, the Young Men’s Christian Association - a nonprofit organization with subdivisions all over the world, 37 of which are in Europe - will step up cooperation with its partners in Moldova, YMCA Europe Secretary General Juan A. Simones Iglesias announced in a news conference hosted by IPN.
Being in Chisinau on a visit, the speaker said that the Association launches a large-scale international project in Moldova. This consists in the purchase of a considerable consignment of laptops for the national educational system. For the purpose, an agreement will be signed with the local representative office of the company “HP”.
Speaking about the Association’s profile, Juan A. Simones Iglesias said that the organization’s mission is to design, organize and implement projects intended for young people, especially from socially deprived groups. The current activity in Moldova is also designed to solve problems generated by the war in Ukraine and the refugee crisis.
“YMCA Moldova and Hewlett Packard have proper cooperation centered on the young people. In this regard, YMCA Europe offered full support to this cooperation. As part of the current visit, I had meetings with decision makers from the public sector and the private one so as to contribute to increasing the efficiency of YMCA Moldova. We believe the risks to which the young people are exposed can be combated by the common effort in different sectors. The central office in Brussels and the over 4,000 primary YMCA organizations across Europe work namely to increase the capacity of the young people,” stated the speaker.
The YMCA Europe Secretary General noted that the Association promotes its values by educational, health, sports, minority and other projects.
The YMCA is a worldwide youth organization with more than 60 million beneficiaries in 120 countries. It was founded in 1844 in London, originally as the Young Men’s Christian Association, and aims to put Christian values into practice by developing a healthy “body, mind, and spirit”. Members, staff and volunteers of the YMCA include people of all ages and from all walks of life. With almost 90,000 employees, approximately 920,000 volunteers and 12,000 branches all over the world, its activities cover young and older people.
