Young driver crashes car into tree after falling asleep
A young driver and his passenger narrowly escaped death after the driver fell asleep and crashed the car into a tree. Traffic Police spokesman Tudor Capatina told Info-Prim Neo the accident happened Thursday, around 7.00, on Bucovat-Nisporeni road.
The 29-year-old driver fell asleep and lost control over the car. The vehicle went the wrong way and hit a tree along the road. The driver suffered an open fracture of his left foot, while the 22-year-old passenger broke his left collarbone. Tudor Capatina mentioned they were lucky because of the low speed.
Around midnight, on Chisinau-Vadul lui Voda road, a Hyundai driven by a 27-year-old man hit a MTZ-82 tractor, then crashed into another Hyundai vehicle.
The first driver was hospitalized in the reanimation ward with multiple traumas. A 34-year-old woman from the second Hyundai fractured both her calves. The tractor driver and his passenger, aged 38 and 29 respectively, suffered occipital lobe injuries.
An Opel Vectra hit a 57-year-old woman while turning. The accident happened near victims’ yard in Bucovat village, Straseni. The responsible driver tried to run away, but he was identified and held soon after the accident. The 22-year-old man could be sentenced to 2 years in jail for not providing the victim with the first aid.
At 22.00, on the 121st kilometer of Chisinau-Giurgiulesti road, a VAZ-21063 vehicle driven by a 49-year-old man collided with a SK-5 harvester. The car driver was hospitalized with broken ribs and other injuries.
Over the last 24 hours, 10 persons were injured in 6 traffic accidents, 461 drivers were fined for various infringements. 2 of them were driving drunk, while 66 others broke the speed limit. There were 26 accidents without any victims, including 17 in Chisinau.
In 2010, 1056 traffic accidents in Moldova killed 41 persons and injured 1342.
