Young man hurt in yesterday’s explosion out of danger

The 17-year-old boy who was injured yesterday in an apartment explosion continues to be in a serious state, but his life is now out of danger. Contacted by IPN, surgeon-pediatrician of the National Children’s Hospital “Emilian Cotaga” Igor Almatui said that the young man is conscious, reacts and can speak. “There are no signs that would alarm us,” he stated.

The medical council that examined the boy decided that he will stay in the reanimatology section for at least a week. A new council will be convened next week. In the best case, the patient will be discharged in 3-4 weeks.

Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told IPN that the experimental anti-fire laboratory established that the explosion was caused by a gas leakage from the stove. In 2-3 days, the lab’s experts will formulate a conclusion and will send it to the law enforcement bodies that will decide whether to start a criminal case or not.

The blast happened on a third-floor apartment in Chisinau’s Ciocana district on April 22. It affected an area of 50 square meters, but caused no fire. The boy of 17, who was in the apartment, was rushed to the hospital in a very serious state.
