Young Moldovan chess players at world champs
The World Youth Chess Championships closed Sunday in the Turkish town of Antalya. Moldova was represented six female chess players, Info-Prim Neo reports.
On the last day of the competition, Elena Bulmaga was beaten by Russia's Aleksandra Goriachikina in the U-12 competition, while Olga Hancu drew with another Russian player, Aina Egorova. In the final rankings, Elena Bulmaga shared the seventh and thirteenth positions with 7.5 points, while Olga Hâncu – the 22nd and 32nd position with 6.5 points.
In the U-15 competition, Valentina Biciuc tied with Amna Nouman from the United Arab Emirates in the last round. With 4.5 points, Biciuc shared the 71st and 81st spots.
Irina Bulmaga and Diana Baciu were defeated by Ukraine's Yulia Shvayger and, respectively, India's Shristi Shetty in the U-16 competition. Bulmaga scored 7.5 points and ranked seventh, while Baciu scored 5.5 points and shared the 42nd and 58th places.
In the U-18 competition, Ana-Maria beat Lihini Ashwini Walallawita from Sri Lanka in the last game and shared the 46th and 52nd positions with 4.5 points.
The World Youth Chess Championship brought together 1,324 participants from 90 countries.
