Young Socialists protest against closure of Chisinau hospital No. 4

The youth wing of the Party of Socialists of Moldova protested against the closure of the Chisinau-based Municipal Hospital No. 4. The “Youth Guard” said the government aims to liquidate the medical institutions in order to obtain the plot on which it is situated, Info-Prim Neo reports. The young people gathered in front of the head office of the Health Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council together with the former director of the hospital Nina Doni. “Throughout 2011 we struggled to modernize the hospital, brought computers and increased the number of beds from 70 to 100, but the authorities removed 20 beds,” said Nina Doni. She also said that the hospital will gradually stop work if the number of beds is decreased. The authorities did not explain the decision to limit the number of workplaces in the institution. The protest involved about 35 members of the “Youth Guard”, employees of the hospital and students of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu”. “The current administration aims to liquidate the hospital so as to build luxury apartments on the plot of 1.5 hectares. We cannot accept such wrongdoings and call on society to support us in defending the hospital’s interests,” said Eugenia Bitca, the representative of the “Youth Guard”. The Municipal Hospital No.4 was opened in 1843 with the financial support of the Jewish community. It is now the only institution in Chisinau that provides medical assistance to homeless persons.
