The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure has taken all necessary measures to ensure the energy security of the Republic of Moldova during the winter. During public hearings organized by the Parliament's Committee for economy, budget and finance, the Minister of Economy, Vadim Brînzan, said that the institution he manages is prepared for the cold season of the year.

Calin Negura, department head within the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, said that in terms of the synchronous, common interconnection of energy systems in Moldova and Ukraine, the long-term objective is to join the Union of Transmission System Operators in Europe, a process which was launched in 2006. „At this stage, together with Ukraine, we are in the stage of implementing a catalog of necessary technical measures that will make interconnection possible. According to our estimates, the process could take another 10 years", said Calin Negara.

The department head said that it is useful to implement the experience of the Romanian Market Electricity and Gas Operator (OPCOM). "We hope to learn from their lessons, including by setting up an OPCOM branch in the Republic of Moldova", said Calin Negara.

MP Igor Munteanu, chairman of the Committee for economy, budget and finance, said that Parliament should help accelerate the energy interconnection with Ukraine and Romania. "The delays cost us not only money, but also the patience of the population and the fact that we are subjected to extreme energy security risks", said Igor Munteanu.

Octavian Calmîc, the director of the National Agency for Energy Regulation, said that ANRE estimated the costs for interconnection. "In the future, tariffs will be affected, namely transport tariffs, not tariffs that apply to the public. For the next year, the programs are reasonable", said the ANRE director.
