The Moldovan authorities want to negotiate a new agreement with the IMF so as to ensure the country’s sustainable development, stated Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who had a meeting with the IMF mission led by Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar on July 5, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the Premier said he is very glad to meet again the IMF team in Chisinau and appreciated the efforts made in this regard. He noted that owing to the close cooperation between the Government and Parliament, they managed to implement 68% of the actions included in the priority reform action roadmap. Among the main directions, Pavel Filip emphasized the justice sector reform and the reform of the financial-banking sector, the anticorruption measures and the improvement of the business climate, the public administration reform and cooperation with civil society.

The Premier stated that the objectives announced by the IMF correspond with the Government’s objectives. The Government has will, determination and the necessary power to do reforms, but needs the support of the development partners. For the purpose, it is very important to negotiate a new Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies between the Government and the International Monetary Fund.

Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar approved of the efforts made by the Government to improve the situation in the financial-banking sector, which made the arrival of a new IMF mission to Chisinau possible. She noted that the current mission will focus mainly on the financial sector and then on wider structural-fiscal reforms aimed at promoting economic growth. She referred also to the strengthening of the budget capacities for optimizing public costs, increasing incomes and diminishing the underground economy.

The IMF mission is paying a visit to Moldova during July 5-15.
