The Moldova Higher Education Project, funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Education Research in 2020-2025, will be restructured. More specifically, US$4 million of the savings will be redistributed for the full repair of two student dormitories and for the internationalization of universities, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Education Dan Perciun, US$3 million will be invested in the extensive rehabilitation of a student dormitory of “Ion Creangă” State Teacher Training University in Chisinau and a student dormitory of the Moldova State University. Both of the dorms are intended for students studying to become teachers. Work is planned to be completed by September 2025.
The second activity aims at internationalizing universities and promoting the Republic of Moldova as a destination for foreign students. A sum of US$1 million will be allocated for the purpose. With these funds, 14 specialties at four universities will be translated into English and 300 teachers will be trained to teach in English.
India will be the orientation market. This year, it is planned to attract about 300 additional students from India, who would come to study at educational institutions in Moldova from September 2024. Emphasis will also be placed on veterinary medicine, engineering, business and administration, as well as programs in international law, stated Dan Perciun.
The Moldova Higher Education Project is in its penultimate year of implementation, with a budget of over US$40 million that went to modernize higher education institutions.
