The Romanian Language Day will be marked this year by a Great National Dictation, which will be held on August 31 in the Great National Assembly Square, starting at 09:00 a.m.. The event is organized by the Ministry of Education and Research, under the aegis of the President’s Office of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
“The correct knowing and speaking of the Romanian language are the foundation of our national identity. It is important for every citizen to speak Romanian correctly and to write correctly, both out of respect for our culture and for a more effective communication in all areas of life,” Minister Dan Perciun said at a press conference.
This year, the Great National Dictation will bring together a thrice higher number of participants as about 1,500 people are expected to test their language skills.
A number of 750 desks will be located in the central square of Chisinau. The participants will receive papers, pens, water and chips. All those interested can take part and should register on the web page created by the Ministry of Education in this regard.
Adriana Cazacu, secretary of state of the Ministry of Education, noted that the dictations will be graded by an extended commission consisting of linguists, specialists from higher education institutions, representatives of the Ministry of Education and other qualified persons. They will abide by the norms stipulated in the Orthographic, Orthoepic and Morphological Dictionary of the Romanian Language (DOOM), second edition,which was published under the aegis of the Romanian Academy in 2022. The arrangement of the text on the page, readability, accuracy of writing will be taken into account. After grading, the papers will be scanned and sent to the participants by email.
The authors of the best ten dictations will be awarded vouchers for books and sets of books during a public event.
