86.6% of votes counted: Ceban and Nastase are leaders in Chisinau

With 86.6% of the votes counted in the municipality of Chisinau by 11pm, the Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban polled 41.19% of the ballot, while the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase – 31.90%, IPN reports.

Independent candidate Silvia Radu gained 17.65% of the vote and is followed by the National Unity Party’s candidate Constantin Codreanu with 4.5% and the Liberal Party’s candidate Valeriu Munteanu with 3.63%.

The candidate of the Party “Democracy at Home” Vasile Costiuc comes next with 0.23% of the poll. He is followed by the candidate of the Pary “Our Home Moldova” Alexandr Roshko with 0.20% of the vote, the candidate of the Green Ecologist Party Victor Stratila with 0.18%, the candidate of the National Liberal Party Alexandra Can with 0.17%, the candidate of the Russian-Slavic Party Alexandru Matu with the same score and the candidate of the People’s Party Maxim Braila with 0.15%.

The candidate who gains more than half of the votes wins the elections. If no one gathers the necessary number of votes, runoffs are held in two weeks for the two candidates who obtained most of the votes.
