ACUM and PSRM expected to resume discussions today

Representatives of the Political Bloc ACUM and those of the Party of Socialists on June 8 will resume the discussions on the formation of a parliamentary majority and the investiture of a new Government, PAS leader Maia Sandu stated in front of the Parliament Building close to midnight after representatives of the Bloc and of the PSRM discussed for almost an hour in the Parliament Building behind closed doors, IPN reports.

After the discussions, the representatives of the PSRM left without making statements. PAS leader Maia Sandu said there are yet things that will be clarified on June 8. She noted the time limit for forming the Government was not June 7, but June 8. “We have one more chance to free the country from the current regime,” she noted.

Aced by journalists if there is a possibility for convoking Parliament for June 8, Maia Sandu said she hopes this is possible. As to the hour of the new meeting with the PSRM, she noted everything depends on how things develop inside this party that was to continue the discussions at internal level yesterday night.

In the evening of June 7, the Constitutional Court announced it rejected President Igor Dodon’s request to clarify when he can dissolve the current hung Parliament. The Court cited a legal principle which says that if a rule is obvious, it doesn’t need interpretation. In other words, the Court suggested that it’s been crystal-clear all along that the 90 days’ countdown starts from the moment the results of the parliamentary elections are validated. “The three months (90 days) period during which the newly elected Parliament must form a Government starts from the date when elections are validated”, says the CC ruling published on its website.
