AEI expected to sign agreement to constitute district alliances today
The group of experts of the member parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) will come together for a meeting on July 5 to draft an agreement on the constitution of district alliances. The agreement will be signed by the three leaders of the AEI in a meeting of the Alliance’s Council, Info-Prim Neo reports.
After the meeting of the AEI Council on Monday evening, Valeriu Strelet, the head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group, told the press that they discussed the creation of local alliances. “Tomorrow afternoon, the group of experts of the AEI is to discuss the situation in every district where alliances can be formed. We will actively interact with the colleagues from districts so as to reach compromises,” he stated.
Valeriu Strelet also said that the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party should make compromises when they will consider the distribution of posts of district head. “The choice made by the people in every district should be respected. But the Liberal Democratic Party is ready to reach reasonable compromises in some of the districts with the colleagues from the AEI, when the responsibility as regards the administration of districts is divided in a balanced way. Even if we are entitled to the position of district head by the number of votes polled, we can accept the posts of deputy head or division head as well. We can reach such compromises,” he said.
The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu said that the Alliance can work. “We discussed the commitments laid down in the agreement to constitute the AEI and the government program. We must implement reforms and reduce corruption and can achieve these objectives only by concerted effort,” he said. According to him, the Liberal Party should hold five seats of district head, without the municipality of Chisinau.
The chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said that some of the colleagues from the AEI agreed that the PDM’s proposal on the distribution of posts should lay at the basis. Under this proposal, the PLDM will hold 13 seats of district head, the PDM –nine seats, while the PL –four seats. “If there is wish and political will, the process will take place according to this proposal. Otherwise, the process will be chaotic,” said Marian Lupu.
The AEI Council is to meet at 6pm on July 5.
