The votes given to Valentina Buliga and Mihai Godea will go to Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round only if the leaders of the AEI have a common and clear message in this respect, political analyst Vitali Catana stated for Info-Prim Neo.
According to Catana, more serious measures will have to be taken in the second round to prevent vote rigging. The ballot boxes are not transparent and this allows including ballots in them with no one observing this.
“From my viewpoint, it is hard to predict who will win. However, it will be hard for the municipality of Chisinau to have a Communist mayor, if Igor Dodon wins, because he will encounter many difficulties,” he said.
The analyst explained that the money will not fall from the sky and Igor Dodon will have to bring the ‘Communist camarilla’, which is used to stealing. If he wants to be an independent and progressive mayor, he will have to come into conflict with his own party. “Igor Dodon promised that the Communist Party will be reformed. If he wins the mayoralty, he will probably have a say and may even eclipse the party’s chief Vladimir Voronin,” said Vitali Catana.
According to the analyst, the reformation process will not be easy as he will meet with resistance from inside the party. The reformation can lead to the splitting of the party and diminution of the voters’ support. “This would mean losses both for Igor Dodon and the Communist Party. Thus, the political configuration in Moldova will have to radically change,” said Vitali Catana.
Commenting on Igor Dodon’s intention to have good relations with the West and Russia simultaneously, the analyst said a Communist party for the West and a lot of people is not presentable, while for Russia it is a discomfort to have a relationship with such a party.
