The mayor of Balti municipality Alexandr Petkov said the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development decided to start, through the Court of Balti, the procedure by which he would be suspended from office as he did not reach an agreement with the authorities and did not authorize the construction of bridges on the Balti city belt, IPN reports.
“The officials, at the time this project was designed, did not consult anyone from the public authorities. They did not consult large enterprises, which will be mostly affected by these works. They did not even consult the government bodies and approved a bypass project according to which the bypass roads should pass through the city of Balti,” Alexander Petkov stated in a news conference given at the headquarters of Our Party.
The mayor noted that he personally requested Prime Minister Dorin Recean to find solutions so that the inhabitants of Balti are not affected. In order to avoid a collapse in transport, he proposed a way to cross the railway, but the Government authorities ignored his proposal.
“The steps taken by the authorities are directed against the people of Balti. There are two bridges that the government wants to repair without taking our opinion into account. They decided to ignore our decision, of the people of Balti. But I’m protecting the interests of the people of Balta. I will not allow them to make fun of the people of Balti. We will build the city the way we want!”, said Alexander Petkov, calling on the Government representatives to discuss with the people from Balti.
The chairman of the Political Party “Our Party” Renato Usatyi, who announced his intention to run for President, said that the “attack” on the mayor of Balti is, in fact, an attack on him during the electoral period and that this attack started when a coalition of Socialists with the PAS was formed in Balti.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development did not comment on the statements made by mayor Alexander Petkov.
