Alliance members seeks to strip absentee Communists of parliamentary entitlements

Members of the ruling Eurointegration Alliance proposed sanctioning the Communist MPs for boycotting the Parliament's sittings. In particular, Liberal MP Vlad Lupan suggested that the Communist parliamentarians should be stripped of the entitlements of the post, and namely salaries, governmental cars and cell phones, Info-Prim Neo reports. However, Speaker Marian Lupu said there was no legal instrument allowing such sanctions, and suggested that proposals should be submitted as to how the Parliament's regulations should be changed to provide for absentee penalties. The entire Communist faction was absent from Thursday's sitting in Parliament. Earlier at a news conference, Communist leader Vladimir Voronin announced the faction would be boycotting the parliamentary sessions until a court decision was pronounced as to the Communists' request to invalidate the outcome of the mayoral elections in Chisinau.
