The bill to amend the Broadcasting Code, which caused heated debates among media organizations and civil society, will be proposed for public debates next week. Such an announcement was made by the Liberal-Democratic MP Valeriu Strelet and Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Valeriu Strelet said that a result of public debates, this bill may be amended. “The initial bill will lay at the basis, but there could be introduced some of the provisions from the bill proposed by MP Chiril Lucinschi. We received a petition signed by personalities from the field of television, for whom I have a profound respect. They are not interested in the provisions of article 6 of this bill, which obliges the hosts to seek evidence from the talk show participants who make defaming statements. They asked allowing broadcasting such foreign channels as CNN. There are a number of groups of interest around this bill. I think we will manage to agree a common formula and to reach a consensus as a result of debates,” stated the Liberal-Democratic heavyweight.
Sergiu Sarbu expressed his regret at the fact that the bill to amend the Broadcasting Code caused controversy. “It’s regrettable that this bill caused so many heated discussions. I do not understand why they oppose it so vehemently. We want more products made by the national TV channels. But what happens? We have to watch TV channels that retransmit other channels, while the national products include only advertisements whose broadcasting costs dear. Our major goal is to ensure the information security and to develop the national mass media. I think we will ultimately reach a compromise,” said the Democratic lawmaker.
Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu said the party he represents is for banning foreign propaganda, but opposes all the other provisions of this bill that protects the economic interests of TV channel owners.
