The taxes and payments collected in the Population Support Fund will be transferred to the accounts of local social assistance agencies and institutions responsible for social assistance in Chisinau municipality and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, IPN reports.

The draft law that will change the purpose of the financing sources of the Population Support Fund, such as sponsorship fees, donations, the 0.1% foreign exchange fee, was given a first reading. 

According to the authors, the initiative was proposed because from October 1, 2023, when the process of reforming and strengthening the social assistance system in Moldova was initiated, the local public administration authorities of the second level have had no social assistance duties any longer.
