The union with Romania can be ensured by referendum only, while the Romanian authorities should prepare the citizens of Moldova for this, ex-minister of defense Anatol Salaru stated in the program “Important” on TVC 21 channel, IPN reprots.
“The union should be made not in Parliament, but by the people. The union can be ensured just by a referendum, where about 70% of the people would vote for. But the Moldovans should be convinced so that they want the union,” said Salaru.
According to him, the Moldovans can be persuaded to vote for the union by different economic, social and cultural projects. They should also know Romania so as to be able to make a difference. “About 60% of the Moldovans have never visited Romania. These people should see Romania and the realities there so as to compare them with our realities and convince themselves that it is better to live in Romania,” stated the former minister.
Anatol Salaru also said that the union should be discussed more seriously by Romanian politicians, while the government of Moldova should not become involved in the political struggles over the Prut. “All the political parties in Romania should come together for a union meeting and take a decision, as it was done when it was decided to join the European Union. Those from Chisinau should communicate and come to terms with the Romanian politicians,” he noted.
Anatol Salaru was dismissed from the post of minister of defense and from that of deputy chairman of the Liberal Party last yearend, following a conflict with the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu. Salaru announced his intention to found a new party that will be a unionist one.
