Andrei Nastase aims to reform municipal health system

The candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) for mayor of Chisinau Andrei Nastase said that as the mayor of Chisinau, he will initiate a municipal program entitled “Accessible High-Quality Medicine” that will envision the renovation of the municipal health facilities and establishment of closer cooperation relations with the university and academic communities in reforming the municipal health system, IPN reports.

In his electoral program, the PPPDA candidate mentions among the priorities the improvement of the management of medical-sanitary institutions and quality management, definition of performance criteria and result indicators based on the health of the local population and assessment of the quality of the provided services. Medical students will be involved in different events and activities to promote  a healthy lifestyle in the municipality of Chisinau, especially in schools and kindergartens. Andrei Nastase promises to review the stock of hospital beds and optimize the medical services and to also decentralize the primary medical assistance services. The family doctors and medical assistants will enjoy the right to travel free by urban public transport when going to patients’ home.

The candidate said the creation of conditions for practicing sports will be an important element of the policy of his team. In this regard, the private community’s initiatives to create the infrastructure for mass sports will be supported. Sports and recreational complexes will be built in Chisinau as part of a municipal program to promote a healthy lifestyle. There will be set up sports grounds in all the quarters of the city and worked out policies to directly and indirectly subsidize the purchase of season tickets to gyms so as to ensure a higher life expectancy and better health among the population.

Andrei Nastase also promises that as a mayor, he will make sure that the city is accessible and inclusive for all the residents. According to him, the urban infrastructure that is not adjusted to the needs of persons with reduced mobility, blind people, parents with small children, pregnant women, elderly people and bicyclists is one of the biggest problems in the capital city. Currently, the public money is spent uselessly on ramps and sidewalks that are impracticable and accessibility is thus not ensured. One of the preoccupations of his team will be to implement accessibility policies in accordance with the legal framework on the social inclusion of persons with special needs and to ensure equity.

Among the proposed measures are the projection and building of social infrastructure facilities adjusted to the needs of persons with reduced mobility and installation of stoplights for visually-impaired persons, special parking places, adjusted access doors, elevators and sanitary facilities.
