Andrei Pintea to serve as prosecutor general on interim basis

First Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Pintea will serve as prosecutor general on an interim basis following the self-suspension from post of Valeriu Zubko, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office. Valeriu Zubko suspected himself from post for the period of the investigation into the shooting of Sorin Paciu following discussions that he had with Head of Parliament Marian Lupu. The Supreme Council of Prosecutors said the prosecutor general’s decision was correct and was aimed at removing the suspicions from the investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) in this case. It condemned the pressure that certain politicians exerted on the PGO and the prosecutors who are investigating this case. “Regretfully, there were institutions that became involved in this political struggle. I mean the Ministry of the Interior that made accusations against the PGO, which later turned out to be false. We consider that the state institutions in a state of law must cooperate between them, not allow to be engaged in political games and scandals and interference in justice,” it is said in a communiqué from the PGO. Sorin Paciu was wounded mortally during hunting on December 23. The hunting involved government officials, including the prosecutor general. The former vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals Gheorghe Cretu is investigated in this case for accidental murder.
