Andrian Candu and Maia Sandu about electoral reform

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said the electoral reform will bring a benefit to the political class by making the political leaders more responsible. On the same subject, the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu said the reform was initiated by the Democratic Party in order to remain in power. The issue was developed in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1

According to Andrian Candu, who is the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party, the electoral reform will bring a benefit to the political class as it will make the political leaders more responsible. This is an already done reform and it matters how it is implemented until the time stipulated by the law and how the electoral exercise of 2018 takes place.

“We promised the people we will restore the right to choose directly. We think the modification of the electoral system will bring only benefits by changes at the level of mentality and the political class. The mixed electoral system envisions a direct choice. The citizens will be able to choose not a list, but a person, including based on the integrity criterion,” stated Andrian Candu.

For her part, Maia Sandu in the same program said the new electoral system was introduced on the initiative of Vladimir Plahotniuc as if with the intention of changing the political class.

“The people are not satisfied with governance. You suggest an electoral system that will not replace the political class, but will help you keep power. I think this country needs honest politicians. We need upright persons. We need an electoral system that would not allow stealing votes,” stated Maia Sandu.
