Andrian Candu calls on Anatolie Donciu to resign

Speaker Andrian Candu called upon the chairman of the National Integrity Commission (NIC) Anatolie Donciu to vacate his seat given the irregularities identified in income and interest statements submitted by members of the Commission, IPN reports.

The special commission that is verifying the income and interest statements of the NIC members established that these inaccurately filled out the statements and incorrectly applied the procedure for cooperating with the competent public institutions and authorities. There weren’t indicated concrete facts and information about the object of the declaration, such as the value of the property that is not subject to assessment. It was determined that Anatolie Donciu didn’t declare a number of financial assets, such as bank accounts, and the fact that his wife works as the manager of a limited liability company.

After listening to the commission’s report, the MPs criticized the members of the NIC for not obeying the law at a time when they themselves determine how the public servants observe the legislation when these declare their property. Some demanded that Anatolie Donciu should be dismissed, while others that the whole Commission should be discharged. As no consensus could be reached, Head of Parliament Adrian Candu withdrew the issue from the agenda.

After the December 3 sitting of Parliament, Andrian Candu told the press that he urged Anatolie Donciu to resign so as to avoid being fired by the legislature. “It was established that the NIC chairman Anatol Donciu faced a conflict of interests and a situation of incompatibility with the post held. Regretfully, owing to heated and contradictory debates in Parliament, the examination of this issue had to be postponed until next week. But the special commission’s reports and statements clearly show the existence of a conflict of interests involving Mister Donciu. That’s why, as the Head of Parliament, I call on him to resign. His integrity has been often questioned and his dismissal has been requested repeatedly, including by civil society,” he stated.
