The number of Moldovan service members involved in peacekeeping missions should be increased, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
“The participation in international missions is a plus of experience, transfer of knowledge and cohesion among the forces of the National Army,” stated the Speaker.
On the occasion of the holiday, four service members were awarded for special merits. According to Andrian Candu, the participation in peacekeeping operations by service members gives weight to Moldova’s foreign policy efforts.
Service members of the National Army during 20 years have taken part in peacekeeping operations in Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Iraq, Georgia, Tajikistan and Ukraine, with a total of 300 officers and sub-officers.
