Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said Moldova’s legislation provides a person who was convicted and is elected MP does not receive parliamentary immunity. The issue was developed in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
“Even if a convicted person, like Ilan Shor, becomes an MP, this will not save him. The prosecutors will come and take him away from the Parliament’s assembly hall,” stated the Speaker.
At the same time, Andrian Candu said there is a risk that the Government will not be formed during three months of the elections. “I want to note that this is big risk and a price to be paid. When there is a Parliament and Government, things are managed,” stated the Speaker. According to him, 2019 should not be as 2015. “In 2019, we should go swiftly and appropriately through the election campaign and elections and should form the Government so as to work further.”
As to the banking fraud, Andrian Candu said 2 billion lei of the stolen funds has been recovered so far. “The money is recovered through the criminal cases of those convicted of the fraud, from what they stole, and also through the liquidation of the banks,” he stated, adding over 40 criminal cases were started and some of those accused were convicted, while others are being investigated. “The given amounts were identified. Some of the sums or assets were sequestrated. The process is under way.”
The Speaker noted the chief of the National Anticorruption Center Bogdan Zumbreanu announced in Parliament that the courts are examining criminal cases over the stealing of 7.7 billion lei, with identified persons.
