The political party People's Anti-Mafia Movement will not run in the June 5 local elections, but will support the candidates of the People's Party for Nation and Country (PpNT), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Movement's leader Sergiu Mocanu told a news conference that the Anti-Mafia Movement was registered with the Ministry of Justice after the date of the local elections was announced so that it cannot run in the elections independently.
“We decided not to field candidates for the Chisinau Municipal Council and the mayoralty of Chisinau as we do not want to favor a candidate who wants to gain control over Chisinau at a time when the ruling alliance could not reach an agreement and put forward a common candidate, especially when Vlad Plahotniuc has at least two candidates for the local elections in Chisinau,” said Sergiu Mocanu.
He also said that his team will make everything possible to hinder “Plahotniuc's candidates” and “Filat's candidate” from taking over the Chisinau City Hall. Sergiu Mocanu stated that Igor Dodon, who is the PCRM's candidate for mayor of Chisinau, is in fact the candidate of Vlad Plahotniuc. “It is not excluded that Plahotniuc will withdraw Buliga from the race before the first round of voting if Dodon has chances to pass to the second round. Voronin himself prays for Dodon not to poll enough votes,” Sergiu Mocanu said.
The leader of the Anti-Mafia Movement said the PLDM's candidate Victor Bodiu is “Filat's servant”. “Voronin used Iordan in the same position in the past. Bodiu is like a Iordan of Filat,” said Sergiu Mocanu. According to him, the PCRM's candidate and the PL's candidate Dorin Chirtoaca would compete in the second round of voting.
In another development, Sergiu Mocanu said the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime was furnished with the list of candidates for mayors and councilors whom it is to blackmail in favor of other candidates.
The political party People's Anti-Mafia Movement was registered with the Ministry of Justice on April 18, 2011. It has over 4,000 members. In the November 28, 2010 parliamentary elections, Sergiu Mocanu headed the list of candidates of the People's Party for Nation and Country. The party polled 0.28% of the vote.
