The Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Thursday refused to take part in the voting on the legislative program on the implementation of the Moldova-EU Plan of Action for liberalizing the visa regime, arguing that the discussions on the antidiscrimination bill have not been yet finished, Info-Prim Neo reports. The PLDM’s reaction generated heated debates within the government coalition. The Liberal and Democrat lawmakers suggested postponing discussing the point concerning the antidiscrimination bill until after the elections. The leader of the Liberal-Democratic group Valeriu Strelet requested that the issue is removed from the agenda. “This subject was discussed in the joint meeting of the components of the alliance on Wednesday. One of the components proposed that the examination of the issue be put off and the other parties agreed. Today we witness a different situation. We ask that the issue be withdrawn. Otherwise, we will not vote,” said Valeriu Strelet. Ultimately, it was decided to postpone the examination of the bill until after June 5. “Today we could sign into law a number of measures related to the European integration process, in particular the liberalization of the visa regime. Owing to one point of the many dozens, this document was not passed. Maybe somebody is interested in the subject of sexual minorities. This point could have been left aside so that we were able to discuss the other points,” Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said after the sitting. The discussions on the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the European Union were opened in 2010. The European Commission devised the plan of action and submitted it to Moldova on January 24 this year. The legislature plays a decisive role at the first stage of implementing the plan of action, which consists in amending and adopting legislation.
