Deputy Parliament Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc was put on the wanted list abroad because he is involved in an international money laundering scheme, the leader of the Antimafia People’s Movement Sergiu Mocanu claimed. In a news conference, he said that Moldova is no longer a credible state for the European law enforcement bodies.
According to Sergiu Mocanu, a criminal case was started two years ago after a money laundering group that included citizens from a number of countries, including Moldova, was identified. The Moldovans involved in this scheme were persons close to Vlad Plahotniuc.
The leader of the Antimafia Movement considers that the Moldovan law enforcement bodies are no longer partners for Interpol and the European justice because they know in the EU that there is a strong connection between the political class and the judicial system in Moldova. The consequences of these circumstances will be suffered by the Moldovans who are in Western states.
Sergiu Mocanu also referred to the wheat donated by Ukraine and Romania to Moldova. He said that several hundred tonnes of wheat that were to be distributed to people as humanitarian aid were stolen by the Liberal Democratic Party. Such cases happened in Cantemir and Falesti districts, from where a number of complaints came.
“In Cantemir, the head of the district executive compiled a list of recipients of winter wheat. Afterward, the list was sent to the Ministry of Agriculture. In two weeks, there was accepted another list that was brought by the Liberal-Democratic lawmaker Ion Balan,” stated Sergiu Mocanu, adding that the new list included leaders of the PLDM – mayors, councilors and company directors from Cantemir and Falesti.
Sergiu Mocanu said that he sent letters to the embassies of the countries that donated the wheat, informing them about this situation. He urged them to seek explanations from the Government as to how the wheat was distributed.
