Apparent suicide letter found in Ion Butmalai's house

Police have found what appears to be a suicide note written by hand in the house of Ion Butmalai, who was yesterday found shot dead in the chest in his Cahul residence, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release that the authenticity of the note is being verified. Meanwhile, homicide proceedings have been initiated.

Yesterday the Cahul Police were alerted at around 12:15 after the former MP's wife found the body in an extension to the garage. Beside the body there were two fired casings and a pistol that Butmalai legally possessed.

As showed by the autopsy report, Butmalai died from a gunshot wound to the left part of the thorax, with the bullet making its exit through the left part of the back. No other injuries, including signs that would indicate self-defense, were discovered.

The case is overseen by the Cahul Prosecutor's Office and is conducted by a group of detectives from the territorial police inspectorate.
