An armed and masked man today successfully robbed a bureau de change in the city of Balti and attempted to rob a bank nearby, wounding a security guard, before getting away.

Police Inspectorate spokesperson Sabina Cojusnean has told IPN that the man initially robbed a currency exchange of 4,600 lei ($300) in a Balti marketplace, by threatening the cashier with gun. Afterwards, the man entered a bank across the road, where he fired a bullet up into the air and another one at a security guard who tried to stop him, wounding his ear.

The robber managed to run away before the police arrived.
