Authorities should’ve foreseen Balti violence, analysts

The authorities were supposed to foresee the violence that spiked in Balti during the pro-unification march. This is the opinion of several Moldovan analysts who voiced their opinions at the “Fabrika” show on Publika TV. The analysts stated that the Balti violence should be a concern, since they were the result of a provocation, reports Info-Prim Neo. Political Analyst Igor Botan stated that after the March 25 manifestations in Chisinau and Cahul, the authorities were supposed to analyze the impact of the marches, and draw conclusions. “In spite of the existence of this Law on meetings, of constitutional norms, the special services that operate on their special methods, should’ve given the President and Prime Minister information on the dangers of such manifestations, so that they can estimate the risks”, the analyst said. Another analyst, Nicolae Chirtoaca, mentioned that the risks are indeed high, because there is opportunity for certain extremist groups not only to destabilize the situation in Moldova, but also create a negative image for Moldova, and this argument will be used extensively by those who do not wish fir Moldova’s territorial integration, the analyst said. Nicolae Chirtoaca added that the two groups that were in Balti are not representatives of society’s interests, but, on the contrary, have nothing in common with society’s interests. Political analyst Arcadie Barbarosie also stated that he has the impression that the police did not do its job during the manifestations. “The Law enforcement bodies should intervene here. I have the impression that the police did not do their job during the Balti manifestations. Next time, I will go to Balti with Mrs. Pavlicenco, not for supporting her idea, but to fight for freedom of speech, freedom of meetings. Not for the freedom of Selin and the bunch”, the analyst said. Members of the pro-unification movement “Actiunea 2012” had a march in Balti planned for August 5, but were attacked with stones by groups of supporters of some political Parties and social organizations that have self-proclaimed themselves patriotic and supporters of statehood. Among the public figures present at the manifestations against unionists were Victor Selin, president of the Social-Democratic Party, Maia Laguta, head of the “Salvgardare” association, Mihail Formuzal, governor of the Gagauzian ATU, and others.
