Basarabeasca district head and his deputy charged with corruption

The Basarabeasca district head and his deputy, as well as two other local public servants, are charged by CCCEC officers with passive corruption. The four accused have been caught red-handed while taking 10,000 lei for preparing an authorization for a construction, Info-Prim Neo reports. The interim head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari told the press on Wednesday that the prosecution started in February this year, when a citizen complained that the district administration asked money for preparing the final acceptance report for a construction. Viorel Morari said that the first installment was paid in April. The local officials received 10,000 and yesterday the second payment was organized, also of 10,000 lei. “They shared the money according to their rank and importance of function”, noted Viorel Morari. Bogfan Zumbreanu, head of CCCEC’s prosecution division, said that the suspects declared themselves innocent and refused to make any statements. He stressed that this case had no political connotation, despite the district head being a member of the Communist Party . The four local officials have been arrested for 72 hours. They are charged with passive corruption, punishable by 5 to 10 years in jail, a fine of 1000 to 3000 conventional units and a ban from certain posts or activities for 2 to 5 years.
