The MPs of the Bloc of the Communists and the Socialists suggest supplementing the legal framework on veterans with a new category of beneficiaries of concessions, namely “war children”. It comes to the persons who were younger than 18 before September 2, 1945. The initiative was presented in a news conference on September 2, IPN reports.
MP Elena Bodnarenco said that besides those who fought in World War II, there are persons who struggled to alleviate the consequences of war, grew up in incomplete families, endured famine and hunger and are now one of the most wronged categories of citizens. There are about 107,500 “war children” who are now aged between 80 and 94 and receive miserable pensions.
The MPs proposed a bill to introduce a series of social guarantees for this category of persons, such as a monthly allowance of 500 lei, public transport concessions, free tickets to sanatorium and compensations for medicines.
BCS also suggests increasing the student scholarships up to the minimum subsidence level.
MP Petru Burduja said the costs associated with the implementation of the proposed initiatives are not large. The money earmarked for buying furniture and equipment for public institutions can be reallocated for these purposes. Money can also be saved by restoring the previous nine ministries, down from the current 13 ministries.
