The director of the Public Policy Institute Arcadie Barbarosie considers that both Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco should provide evidence and arguments to support their statements, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Premier made very serious accusations against the Prosecutor General’s Office. I think the prosecutor general should be allowed to publicly present a report that would hide nothing. He should tell the names of the persons about whom he speaks. They both should substantiate their assertions,” Arcadie Barbarosie told a news conference. He said that it would be more indicative if 100,000 people took to the streets and demanded that the prosecutor be discharged, as it happened in Argentina, where the population reacted to the press reports and sought the President’s dismissal. “Our society is not yet ready for such steps, but will be,” stressed Arcadie Barbarosie. Sergiu Ostaf, director of the Resource Center Human Rights (CReDO), told the same news conference that civil society is dissatisfied with the way the Prosecutor’ Office deals with the cases of torture. “Our expectations are high and the Prosecutor General’s Office did not meet them. There are legal cases opened over corruption, but they go nowhere. We know nothing about the large mafia groups about which they speak so much. No light was shed on the raider attacks on private institutions. The institution is criticized, but there should be a report that would clarify things,” said Sergiu Ostaf. He considers that Vlad Filat shouldn’t have demanded the prosecutor’s dismissal this way. “He must be an example for his colleagues and society as the PLDM has a say in Parliament. He could have expressed his dissatisfaction with the work done by the institution. Until now he presented only political arguments,” said Sergiu Ostaf. Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco is to render a report in Parliament. Acting President Marian Lupu proposed that the prosecutor should be questioned in a closed-door meeting on October 27. The proposal is to be put to the vote.
