The jury of the contest for the best design of the bust of Grigore Vieru chose the winner. The bust sculpted by Victor Macovei and Ruslan Tihonchuk will be placed on the Alley of Classical Writers in the central park of Chisinau on the bard's poet, on February 14. The other seven busts that took part in the contest will be installed in the museum in Pererata, which is the native village of Vieru, and in other institutions, Info-Prim Neo reports. The final decision as regards the winner of the contest was taken by the poet's wife Raisa Vieru. She said the winning bust is very similar to the poet and is the most representative. “I like this bust as it represents Grigore Vieru's smile, eyes very well. He always had this smile when he met a child,” said Raisa Vieru, adding that the sculptor “comprehended the poet's secret”. The bard's wife said yet she has several objections to the bust. “I think the nose and hair of Grigore Vieru should be modified slightly”. Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said the bust will be returned to the sculptors for being modified. Eight monumental sculptors participated in the contest that was opened on November 17, 2009.
